Loretta Pettway (b. 1942), "Roman Stripes" variation (local name: Crazy Quilt), 1970
Cotton twill, denim, cotton/polyester blend, synthetic knit (pants material), 86 x 70 in.; Philadelphia Museum of Art, Museum purchase and gift of the Souls Grown Deep Foundation
Around 1967, Plummer T. Pettway made a "Crazy" quilt from old pants. Her stepdaughter Loretta admired and remembered the quilt and, a few years thereafter, created this version from similar materials.
These images show the entirety of the quilts, including their handmade edges, against a white background.
